This book has been a true labor of love, a way for me to stay connected to my homeland and to honor the people who shaped me — my mom and dad, my incredible grandparents, Baba Mara, Dido Pere, Dido Pave, and Baba Euphemia, and all of our family both here and back in Croatia.
Every page has felt like a conversation with them, a chance to keep their voices and their spirit alive through the foods we shared and the stories passed down. More than just recipes, this is our family’s story — one I’ve long dreamed of writing down so it wouldn’t be lost.
In putting it together, I’ve learned so much about myself, my family, and the culture that runs so deep in my veins. My hope is that as you read these pages, you feel not just the flavors of our table but also the love, the laughter, and the memories that make them truly ours.

Every recipie has a story
I wanted this cookbook to be different. Every recipe tells a story. Each dish is rooted in family history and, at times, in the larger history of the place it comes from. This book is an invitation to explore not only the ingredients on the plate, but the where, why, and how behind every recipe—because food is never just food; it is memory, culture, and connection.

One-person team
This was deeply important to me. Many cookbooks are produced by large teams—writers, stylists, photographers, retouchers, publishers—each contributing a piece. I wanted this book to feel personal in every sense, so I took on every role myself. The process was a tremendous learning experience, giving me complete creative control while allowing me to truly understand the craft and complexity behind bringing a book into the world.
